My Boss Called a Meeting to Tell Me That No One Likes Me Workplace Challenges and Conflicts
  • 03
was hired in a management position in a field I've been working in for 5 years. I am 3 weeks into the job and I've been getting super toxic vibes from my boss and have been worked to the bone. I have been exhausted

but grateful to have this opportunity and constantly fought against my gut telling me this isn't right and that something is weird about this place. Well
  • 05
yesterday I had a meeting where my boss accused me of "talking sh" amongst other OUTLANDISH lies, told me that multiple people came up to her
  • 06
and told her that they don't like me, and finally, that she feels like I don't like her. I have never experienced something so unprofessional in my career. She
  • 07
talked at me for an hour and didn't ask how I felt about these accusations or let me defend myself. Just talked at me as if it were all true. Again, this is my 3rd

new boss. It's awkward and people get defensive.) I left the meeting absolutely shocked. I couldn't believe that this happened and that for the first time in my professional career,

amongst strangers no less, I'm being lied about? Or maybe I'm not and my boss is a literal insane person- I don't know. Anyway, I

was so shook by this that I contacted old employees of this place of business and they all had a lot to say about this manager and the, for lack of a better word, evil culture there.

catdog1111111 If you're three weeks in, presumably you're on probation. She's being abundantly clear that she's unlikely to endorse you past probation. You can deny her

accusations while looking for another job. She may have her own agenda like wanting an internal hire to get your position. What you

can do since you have nothing to lose, write out the things she said so you can remember them. Go above her head to explain what happened and give your side. This will traditionally torch your relationship, but it sounds like it'd already cinders.

Proof_Worldline... I would also like to add, make a conscience effort to meet your team. Start by sending 15 min meeting makers if not possible socialize at lunch. Give them positive reinforcement based on observations.

briomio Boss has a SIL that she wants to put in your position. Other employees resent that a stranger was brought in and put over them.
  • 17
IncorigibleDirig... Is it clear you were hired as a people manager and not a process manager? E.g. Manager of a project team, not a project manager?
  • 18
I just ask because you say coworkers at the start of the sentence, then say you're "their new boss".
  • 19
Most people would be standoffish if a process manager also acted as if they were the new boss. I work with project managers all the time, but they know they can't direct my time.

They collaborate with me to get a job done. If one tried to direct my time, they'd find they hit brick walls all the time. I don't gossip, but I bet many would.
